How We Started
A year of love became a lifelong mission.
Our daughter spent a year as a nanny for six-year-old twins with autism. Relatively low-functioning children who needed constant, loving supervision. Every door in the house had a lock. The pool slider had a master lock. Because without it, they would simply walk outside at any moment — day or night — with no awareness of the danger waiting in the water.
For Eric, it crystallized something he had seen across 38 years in aquatics — from managing waterparks and directing community pools to building adaptive swim programs at the JCC and working alongside special needs families one-on-one. Children with developmental or cognitive delays need far more than the standard 10-lesson stipend provides. They need months of patient, specialized instruction. And most families simply cannot afford it.
For Traci, it connected directly to three decades of child welfare work — navigating DCF, ChildNet, and the community systems that are supposed to protect Florida's most vulnerable children. She knew exactly where the gaps were. Together, they founded Current of Hope to close them.

Eric Schweitzer
Co-Founder & Executive Director of Aquatic Programs
Eric Schweitzer is a South Florida aquatics professional with more than 38 years of experience spanning competitive swimming, waterpark operations, adaptive programming, lifeguard training, and aquatic facility management. His work with children with special needs has been a defining thread throughout his career — developing inclusive swim lesson programs at multiple organizations and bringing the same commitment to access and safety that now anchors the mission of Current of Hope Foundation. Beyond the pool, Eric founded and scaled South Florida Pool Service Inc. from 73 to over 500 accounts over nine years. That same entrepreneurial energy now powers the business development and partnership strategy of the foundation.
Traci Schweitzer
Co-Founder & Executive Director of Child Welfare Programs
Traci Schweitzer is a South Florida child welfare professional with more than 30 years of experience in family services, program administration, crisis intervention, and community systems development. Currently serving as Circuit Community Development Administrator for the Florida Department of Children and Families, Traci has spent her career building the infrastructure that keeps Florida's most vulnerable children safe. Known across the South Florida nonprofit community as a connector and fierce advocate for children and families, her network spans DCF, ChildNet, the YMCA of South Florida, community mental health providers, school districts, and law enforcement — directly powering Current of Hope Foundation's Family Support Resources Program and partner referral network.
